The International Rescue
Book of Thunderbirds FAB Cross Sections.
With
possibly the longest title in the history of Gerry Anderson-related
books, this paperback from Ravette featured 14 cross sections
reprinted from Fleetway's 'Thunderbirds: The Comic'. These included:
- A cross section showing how the Empire State
Building was moved in the TV episode 'Terror in New York City'.
- Feature pages on the Pod vehicles.
- The robot Braman drawn by Steve Kyte.
Unlike the more recent books published by Carlton,
this volume presented the vehicles or buildings set in fully painted
backgrounds. Technical details were labelled with numbers referring
to a 'Key' panel or box positioned in the corner of each spread.
The book retailed for £2.99 and, like the more recent Thunderbirds
FAB Cross Sections, it sold out fairly rapidly.

Thunderbirds FAB Cross Sections.
In many ways, Thunderbirds FAB Cross Sections
is a rerun of Ravette's 'International Rescue Book of Thunderbirds
FAB Cross Sections', in that the majority of the 'cross
sectioned' subjects are the same. Beyond that, however, the
similarity ends! Thunderbirds FAB Cross Sections is a 32 page
hardback published by Carlton Books. It retailed for £12.99
and virtually sold out, despite being reprinted twice. In fact,
it went into the children's best-seller lists for
several weeks over the Christmas 2000 period! Significantly,
the artwork is vastly different to the work produced for Fleetway
and Ravette. Here the vehicles are illustrated in much more
detail on white backgrounds, enabling the technical captions
to be printed in foreign languages if required.
Cross sections included are:
- A
spread of smaller Pod Vehicle drawings including the Firefly,
the Domo, Transmitter truck and Recovery vehicle, among others.

Probably
the most challenging cross-section Graham drew for the book was
Marineville. On TV only the Control Tower, the living quarters
next to it, the hospital, power plant and Stingray's pen are prominently
featured. The rest of the best seems to consist of a number of
nondescript warehouse like buildings and installations that house
the WASP Training Unit, workshops, laboratories and the like.
What needed to be shown was where the rest of the personnel live,
where the aircraft are stored and what the underground submarine
network looks like. As most of this isn't seen in the Stingray
episodes, Marineville's cross-section almost became an exercise
in town planning, effectively producing a sort of Milton Keynes
with missiles!

Thunderbirds
Classic Comic Strips.
Published in August 2002, this book is a 160 page
hardcover volume reprinting the first four Frank Bellamy Thunderbirds
strips from TV Century 21, plus the first and last Lady Penelope
strips by Eric Eden from the same comic. The first story introduces
Parker plus the ongoing villain Mr. Stedman, while the final story
introduces the Hood. Lady Penelope also meets Jeff Tracy in this
strip and she is introduced to the Tracy Family in the first Thunderbirds
story.
Two TV21 Holiday Special strips are
also included: a Lady Penelope story by Dan Dare artist, Frank
Hampson and another Thunderbirds story by another ex-Dan Dare
artist, Don Harley.
The book also features a brief history
of TV21, reprints of 1960s advertisements from the Comic featuring
Thunderbirds products, as well as Dateline-style newspaper sections
introducing most of the comic strip adventures.
Finally the book features a wrap
around dust jacket illustrated in a Bellamy-esque style, by Graham.
